01

The fruit name is not yet a shipment specification

For fresh fruit, cultivar or commercial type can change maturity behaviour, size, appearance, post-harvest handling and destination suitability. A request for 'mango' or 'avocado' is therefore only the beginning of the buyer brief.

CeyLanka's product pages deliberately avoid universal Brix, dry-matter, shelf-life or season claims because those values can vary with fruit, cultivar, crop, maturity and logistics programme.

02

Define maturity and arrival condition together

Physiological maturity, ripeness on arrival, firmness, Brix or dry matter are not interchangeable. Use only the indicators that are meaningful for the actual fruit and cultivar, and define the sampling or test method when the buyer needs a measurable threshold.

This is particularly important for fruit that continues to ripen after harvest and for programmes where a specific retail or processing condition is expected at destination.

03

Pack-out and logistics are quality controls

Count, size or weight band, permitted defects, carton or crate, ventilation, fruit protection, palletisation and temperature route can materially change arrival quality. They should be specified alongside the fruit rather than added after the price is negotiated.

04

Plant-health requirements belong to the destination

Sri Lanka NPQS explains that phytosanitary certification confirms plant-health status against importing-country conditions. The export route can require registration, inspection, sampling, laboratory testing, treatment, field/source controls or additional declarations depending on the commodity and destination.

That means 'phytosanitary available' is not a universal product feature. The exact commodity and destination have to be checked before the certificate route is promised.

How to use this guide

This page is buyer decision support, not a legal opinion, laboratory certificate or shipment approval. Requirements that can change are linked back to the live authority. For an actual quotation, the product, source, lot, destination and required evidence still have to be verified.
