Certificates of Origin and REX are route-dependent
How to avoid treating origin documents as a universal shipment requirement.

Origin documentation depends on the trade arrangement
A Certificate of Origin supports origin claims used for customs, trade preference or buyer/documentary requirements, but the exact document depends on the destination and applicable trade arrangement.
CeyLanka therefore does not treat one COO form as a universal requirement for every shipment.

REX uses exporter statements on origin
Sri Lanka Department of Commerce guidance explains that the Registered Exporter system is used for applicable preferential routes where the exporter makes a Statement on Origin on commercial documents after the required registration and validation.
REX eligibility should only be pursued when the product, destination and preference route actually require it.

Keep preference separate from origin marketing
A product being Sri Lankan does not automatically prove that it satisfies every preferential rule of origin. Product-specific origin rules, supporting evidence and current scheme conditions still have to be met.
- Identify the destination and applicable preference scheme.
- Check product-specific rules of origin.
- Keep supplier/manufacturing evidence supporting the origin claim.
- Use the correct COO or Statement on Origin route.
